Patio Awnings

The Ubiquitous Folding Arm, Articulated Arm, Hidden Arm, Canopy, Blind, Toldo, Markisen, call them what you will, there are probably more models of awning in this category than there are names for them.

If you think of awnings, then it’s normally this type that springs to mind.

On this page, we will just describe the basics, you will find links to the right for more in depth information on the technicalities.

This type of awning is supported, usually with a bracket at each end, but on larger models by a supporting beam and/or several supports.

They range in size from 1,57m wide right up to 7.00m wide and go from a projection of 1.25m up to 4.00m, with hundreds of options in between.

The retractable arms on this type of awning make for a very elegant and simple look that enhances any home.

Inclination can be adjusted on installation, usually anywhere between 5° and 80°

They offer outstanding sun protection when combined with the best textiles

All of our awnings are made to withstand certain wind classifications. (see separate page)

The three basic types are:

  • Classical awning . A folding arm system where the awning fabric is exposed to the elements. To keep damage from inclement weather to a minimum it can be placed under an overhang of the roof or a small roof section can be added.
  • Semi-Cassette, where the material goes back into an aluminium box when put away. The arms are still visible from underneath. A valance is optional. This has the advantage of protecting the material from UV rays and inclement weather, and is particularly well suited to those that have holiday homes here.
  • Full-Cassette, as the name implies, this model covers the material and the arms when stored. This gives full protection and is the most modern, elegant and aesthetic. Not normally fitted with a valance, but can be fitted as an option.

Naturally, all models are available with optional electric motors. (see ‘Motors’)
